The other day I went to the kitchen
turned on the lights
stepped onto cold tiles
and I noticed a tiny millipede.
It marched right up to me
and raised it's front end
as if to say 'HELLO'.
I looked down at it's
furry, humble little body
and I could not believe
how brave the bug was.
Nonchalantly, I reached for a napkin nearby
while meticulously plotting it's death.
ZAP! I snatched the bug up
and squeezed it's tiny life out.
Instantaneously, the gates flew open
the ones that hold back the agony
flooding my soul with remorse.
Hanging my head in shame
I could not help but ask myself,
“What would Buddha have done?”
